Here’s some things to think about that might save you some money on your car insurance.
1.) Ask us to take a look. Situations change and the company you’re with now may not still be the best fit. We’d be happy to see if one of our other companies would be a better fit for you.
2.) Multi-Policy Discounts – the savings can be significant if you insure both your auto and home with the same company. In fact, even though you might pay more for one of the policies the combined discounts can make your total bill less. Let us quote both your auto and home and we may be able to find savings for you.
3.) Discounts – Good students, good driver, loss free, auto/home, driver training courses, defensive driver courses, anti-theft devices – these are all things that some insurance companies give discounts for. If any of these apply to you, make sure you tell us about it so we can maximize your discounts.
4.) Higher Deductibles – The standard deductibles of $250/$500 have barely changed in the last 40 years, but incomes and the cost of vehicles and repairs have. Choosing a higher deductible can save you significantly on your premiums. Just make sure you have the funds set aside to pay your deductible in the event of a loss.
5.) Pay attention to your credit score – Many insurance companies factor your credit rating into your auto premiums. Make sure you don’t have any wrong information in your credit record that might be lowering your score and work with your bank or financial advisor to see if there is anything you can do to raise your credit score.
6.) Choose the right car – We’re often called for a quote AFTER a new vehicle is purchased. If you are comparing several models, call us to see if the insurance premiums are going to vary. In in the same model of vehicle, the base model will almost always be cheaper to insure than the “sport” version of the same car. Sometimes significantly more.
